The American way of life: living above our means without thinking about how we are affecting the environment. The “No Impact Man” way of life: living off the grid for one year while testing the boundaries of zero environmental impact.
The story of the documentary starts with Colin Beavin, his wife Michelle Conlin, and their two year old daughter. The family resides in a colorful Manhattan apartment with many of the comforts of life. That is, until the couple embarks on a yearly quest to detoxify their lives of living in excess. Their year is broken down into phases; first giving up the small things, like coffee, shopping, and consumer packaged goods. Later, moving on to the extreme like giving up electricity. This film is a few years old now, but this tale is an eye opening example of how we forget the simple truth that we choose to either negatively or positively affect our environment, by the decisions we make. Overall wonderful concept and well done documentary!

Environmental problems in our planet have happened because of the breakdown of community, without community none of us feel accountable to anybody else… all of us are interconnected.
